Kindimindi Preschool in Inverell will be closed for an indefinite period after fire ravaged the premises yesterday afternoon.
Fire & Rescue NSW and local police responded to smoke alarms about 2:30pm and upon arrival, fire crews witnessed heavy smoke bellowing out from the building.
Fire Fighters gained entry and quickly extinguished the fire in a classroom which was badly damaged from the fire.
Fire & Rescue NSW believe the fire may have started from a battery item being charged.
No persons were at the scene at the time of the fire.
They say the fire was contained causing significant damage to most rooms and the cause of the fire is being deemed not suspicious.
Inverell police say the Premises will be out of action for some time.
