Statement:
We previously informed the community that actions are underway to address McLean Care’s financial distress and ensure the quality and safety of care for our residents and clients meet the current Aged Care and Quality Standards.
We have placed some properties on the market that are not directly related to the care of our residents or clients.
With this move, some of our staff in Inverell have relocated to available spaces at residential sites, and similar arrangements will be made for other offices as we work through this process.
This strategy allows McLean Care to re-invest at the point of care more directly.
With respect to community care services, McLean Care has communicated with clients and staff and is now informing the community about changes to its in home aged care services and the steps being taken to support clients and employees during this transition.
McLean Care has been working closely with the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing through the Market Adjustment Program to support transition planning as the organisation responds to ongoing financial pressures.
McLean Care is also engaging with the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission to support continuity of care for clients receiving in-home services.
Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP)
Australian Unity has been appointed by the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing to deliver services for McLean Care’s CHSP clients into the future.
Australian Unity is an award-winning provider of home health and care services, supporting older Australians to live and age well at home and in their communities.
McLean Care will cease delivering CHSP services from 1 June 2026.
A transition plan is in place to support continuity of care, and Australian Unity will contact CHSP clients directly to explain the next steps, including entering into a new service agreement.
Clients remain free to choose their own aged care provider. Clients who wish to move to a different provider will be supported by McLean Care through that process.
Support at Home services
McLean Care has also advised clients that it will cease providing Support at Home services from 1 June 2026.
Support at Home clients will be supported to transition to an alternative provider by that date. Australian Unity has been identified as a provider able to take on these services and will offer clients the option to transfer if they choose. The decision to transfer rests entirely with each client.
“McLean Care will continue to assist Support at Home clients throughout the transition period and work closely with providers to minimise disruption to services wherever possible” said Acting Chief Executive Officer, Jill Davidson.
Board Chair, Manual Meszaros said “McLean Care remains committed to supporting clients through this period of change and is working closely with Australian Unity to ensure an orderly and respectful transition of services, with continuity of care as the priority.”
If clients need additional support during transition, clients can contact the Older Persons Advocacy Network on 1800 700 600 or the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission on 1800 951 822.
Residential aged care services
McLean Care continues to operate its residential aged care facilities on a business as usual basis while an expression of interest process is undertaken. There will be no disruption to residential care services, and residents and families will continue to receive updates as the process progresses.
