Local young people are once again stepping forward to shape the future of youth activities in the community, with strong interest already shown in the second year of the Youth Think Tank Team (YTTT).
The initiative, delivered by Ladybug Projects in Inverell, brings together young people aged 12–24 who want to make a difference by creating opportunities for their peers. Participants are paid for their time attending meetings, recognising the value of their ideas and contributions.
Applications have already been received from a diverse group of students, including those in local high schools and the homeschool community. The program is about everyday youth who want to be involved.
Facilitator Christy Galbraith explained “The program is designed for everyday youth who want to contribute to their community. It is not about having the loudest voice or the highest academic achievements, but about young people who want to be involved and take part in something bigger than themselves”.
In its first year, the Youth Think Tank Team successfully delivered the community’s youth music concert, Battle on the Bank. The free event showcased local music artists aged 12–24 and provided a platform for young performers while creating a safe and vibrant space for youth to come together.
Building on that momentum, the 2026 Youth Think Tank Team will work together to identify new ideas, plan events, and explore options to deliver opportunities for young people.
Applications to join the Youth Think Tank Team are still open, with young people aged 12–24 encouraged to apply. Applications will be accepted until Friday 20 March at ladybugprojects.com.au/youth-think-tank-team/.
Reflecting on the 2025 program, participant Daniel said he found the experience helped build his confidence to get involved in his community. “It was appreciated how youth in the Youth Think Team were supported and encouraged to run the event, instead of adults taking a lot of control.”
The Youth Think Tank Team empowers youth to lead, innovate, and create activities that reflect what local young people truly want.
Members of the 2026 Youth Think Tank Team will be announced late March.
