A destructive thunderstorm yesterday afternoon has caused damage and knocked out power to large areas in the Gwydir Shire.
Warialda was heavily impacted by the damaging winds which reportedly tore the roof off multiple houses and caused significant damage.
A spokesperson for Essential Energy stated last night that 2,300 homes and businesses in those areas were without power following the impacts from the storms that swept through the area with crews to continue restoration works today.
Trees were also uprooted with one coming down near the Tatts Hotel and reports of trees and debris on the Yetman Rd.
