Inverell branch of the State Emergency Service has issued a reminder to residents to prepare for the current thunderstorm season.
Branch Deputy Unit Commander Joerg Gruenfeld says homeowners and tenants should be doing maintenance work now on blocked gutters and tiled rooves to ensure there’s no leak problems when storms hit.
Speaking on STA FM, Mr Gruenfeld says most of the calls over the past 18 months have been because of gutters backfilling into ceiling spaces due to leaves and cracked tiles and missing mortar on tiled rooves which has resulted in rooves leaking.
He also reminded the community that branch members are there to serve the community but asked for less callouts for minor jobs that could’ve been done before storms arrive.
Mr Gruenfeld says preparation is the best medicine in the event of a big storm like securing BBQ’s, trampolines and other loose items that can be flung through the air.
