Inverell‘s Local streets will come alive with colour and culture next month for NAIDOC Week, as 17 artworks by young people aged 12–24 are displayed on street flags throughout the Inverell CBD.
The artworks, selected from a youth art competition, will be proudly flown from 4 July to 14 July 2025 to celebrate NAIDOC Week.
In April, young people across the region were invited to create original artworks that reflect this year’s NAIDOC Week theme “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy”. The response was strong, with submissions received from students across Inverell’s schools, as well as Ashford and Bundarra.
The selected artworks, chosen by the local NAIDOC Committee, showcase a diverse range of styles and stories. Each represents a unique interpretation of culture, identity, and connection to Country, as well as a visual celebration of First Nations people.
The flags will line the streets of the Inverell CBD throughout NAIDOC Week, serving as a powerful reminder of the creativity and cultural pride of our youth.
“This initiative celebrates the strength and creativity of our young people, who are not only the voices of tomorrow but powerful storytellers today,” said project manager Christy Galbraith, Ladybug Projects.
Youth who will have their artwork featured in the Inverell CBD are:
- Holy Trinity School’s Paige Potter (12 years)
- Inverell High School’s Miley Dawson (15 years), Nyvais Duncan (15 years), Lucienne Krause (15 years) and Adam McKinnon (15 years)

NAIDOC Week is held nationally from 6–13 July 2025, honouring the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The Youth Art Street Flag Project is the brainchild of Inverell based Ladybug Projects and is supported by non-profit group Regional Community Builders and the NSW Government.
