Refurbishment works on the aeration tanks at the Inverell Sewerage Treatment Plant continues to progress well.
Inverell Shire Council state in their December Business papers the aeration tanks have performed well over the past 43 years, however approximately 10 years ago it was determined that they require refurbishment to cater for the next 40 years as their condition was nearing its end of life.
To facilitate the refurbishment of the existing aeration tanks, a third aeration tank was constructed to allow the withdrawal of Tanks 1 & 2 from service, one at a time and maintain the plants population capacity.
Once refurbishment works are completed on Tanks 1 & 2, Tank 3 will be taken offline with the third tank 3 to be put into permanent operation when the sewage load increases to a level requiring a third tank.
