Reigning Group 19 premiers have scored a 24-20 win over the Boomerangs at Moree in Round 13 results.
The win keeps the Wombats slim finals aspirations alive with one round remaining.
Meantime, bottom placed Narwan Eels have upset 3rd placed Guyra Super Spuds in another close match.
The loss means the Super Spuds have opened the door the Uralla Tigers chances of making the finals.
In Ladies league Tag, Guyra were too good for Narwan winning 24-6 while the Boomerangs defeated the Wombats winning 24-16
The only Reserve grade game played saw the Warialda wombats claim a 36-12 win over the Rangs.
The games between Tingha and Uralla and the Inverell Hawks/Glen Innes Magpies were postponed to August 2nd due to a shortage of referees last weekend.
