NSW Health are again reporting an increased number of cases of whooping cough in children across the state.
Whooping cough, or pertussis, is a serious respiratory illness which is highly contagious and spreads easily between kids and families and can be life threatening for babies, especially newborns.
Whooping cough usually begins with cold and flu-like symptoms such as cough, runny nose, sneezing and fever.
NSW Health advise to help stop the spread of whooping cough, keep children at home if they are sick.
If your child is unwell call healthdirect day or night on 1800 022 222 and get your child the care they need while if it’s life-threatening call Triple Zero (000) or go to an Emergency Department.
