Former NSW Nationals Senator John Williams says he feels betrayed by New England MP Barnaby Joyce after he decided to quit the party last week.
Speaking to STA FM last week, Mr Williams says he had supported Mr Joyce by assisting him to become the leader in the Senate in 2008 and then formed three new branches for the Nationals party in the New England to get troops on the ground to prepare for Mr Joyce’s election assault in 2013.
Mr Williams says branch members through 6 elections handed out how to vote sheets, manned pre poll and polling booths, scrutineered the counting of votes, attended meetings and fundraisers and campaigned for Mr Joyce but now he’s turned his back on them.
He says Mr Joyce was able to get to the highest position in Australia through the Nationals party and when asked if he would now consider Mr Joyce a traitor, Mr Williams was clear that the former Deputy Prime Minister was to the Nationals Party.
