The Inverell business community is mourning the loss of Les Parsons who passed away peacefully on Sunday at the age of 90.
Mr Parsons used his experience in electric motor repairs in Sydney to eventually move to Inverell and open Arlington Gasweld on February 2nd, 1977, starting the operation in a 10 x 5 metre shed.
Mr Parson’s devoted his life to his family and the community, contributing his service to MacIntyre Lions, councillor at Inverell Shire Council, Northwest Electricity Councillor, the Australia Olive Association, Inverell Pioneer Village, Northern Inland Regional Development Board, and Inverell Shire Tourism Board.
He received an OAM for Community Service in 2021 and an Australia Day award in 1994.
He survived by wife Heather, son Rob and daughter Tracey.
