Uralla Shire Council has warned that Wheel Cactus, an invasive cactus species which is now starting to flower across the Shire, poses a serious threat to the region’s environment and agriculture.
Wheel Cactus spreads quickly, forming dense infestations that outcompete native vegetation and make land unusable for grazing.
Once seeds form, birds and animals can spread them far beyond the original site with early detection and reporting being essential to stop its spread.
Anyone who believes they’ve found Wheel cactus on their property, should contact Councils Weeds Team on 02 6778 6300 or email council@uralla.nsw.gov.au.
