Tin Mining at Emmaville Set to Commence Towards End of the Decade

by | Sep 2, 2026 | Business

Tin mining in Emmaville is a step closer with the Taronga Tin Project currently going through the assessment phase following the submission of the Environmental Impact Statement.

In an item in the New England times, of the 15 public submissions lodged during the project’s environmental exhibition last year, 11 supported the mine, and Glen Innes Severn Council raised no objections.

First Tin CEO Tony Truelove says project planning has continued across engineering design, water management and infrastructure with the project expected to deliver long-term regional benefits through local employment and procurement.

Mr Truelove says they’re hoping to have consent next month, depending on the timeframes of the application review, and aiming to be able to start work on the ground around March/April 2027 with production commencing in late 2028 or early 2029.

200 short-term jobs is expected to be created during the construction period while around 150 full time employees once in full operation.
