Tight matches were played by both Men’s First Grade teams over the weekend in Round 16 action of the Central North Rugby Union competition.
The Inverell Highlanders have managed to upset the Narrabri Blue Boars and steal the Kookaburra Cup with a dramatic and close 24-22 win. In the other first grade game the Tamworth Pirates played an even closer match against Moree, with the Pirates upsetting the Bulls 22-21.
The Highlanders are currently sitting in 5th position on the Central North ladder tied with Quirindi Lions on 47 points, with their finals aspirations still in reach.
The Pirates win meanwhile has now closed the gap on Moree and Narrabri, with Bulls currently sitting on top of the ladder on 69 points, the Blue Boars on 63 and the Pirates on 60 points.
