Trainees wanting to undertake a TAFE course in various critical trades will have to wait after revelations that TAFE NSW has frozen the intake of second semester students at all but 6 locations in Sydney, until at least 2026.
The Daily Telegraph article also reveals Inverell TAFE is the only campus offering entry level qualifications in construction.
The article reveals industry insiders were told earlier this month that more than 20 TAFE courses were already at capacity and the public provider would be unable to run semester two intakes for courses including electrical fitting, carpentry and plumbing
The worst affected qualification is the Certificate 3 in Electrotechnology with several Sydney campuses unable to accept more trainees which is expected to hamper the nation’s needs for more qualified electricians required to meet housing and renewable energy targets of a further 85,000 sparkies by 2050
