Almost $800,000 is believed to have been injected into the Inverell economy as a result of the Swimming NSW country regional Championships held in January.
Tourism Research Australia figures demonstrate that a “sports tourist”, be it a competitor or spectator at a sporting event, spends on average, $412 per person/per day and that each visiting competitor brings on average 2.3 accompanying persons.
Figures suggest 260 competitors that visited Inverell during the championships spent over $214,000, 671 spectators spent almost $553,000 while almost $20 thousand was spent by 24 officials.
The Swimming NSW Country Regional Championships have been determined to be a resounding success with the event providing a perfect opportunity to showcase the $50 million Inverell Aquatic Centre to competitive swimmers from across the state and to the governing body of swimming in NSW.
