The penultimate round of the Inverell Cricket Competition was played over the weekend with competition leaders Staggy Creek experience a major hiccup against Square and Compass losing by 6 wickets at Varley Oval on Saturday.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, Staggy put in its worst effort with the bat for the season, being bowled out for 74, with Square and Compass bowler Alex Hull the chief destroyer with 5/13.
In reply Square and Compass had no problems with the target with Jarrod White hitting a quick fire 34 in their total of 4/76.
Staggy’s loss has surrendered top spot to Glen Innes on the points table with one match remaining.
Glen Innes had a powerful 7 wicket win over Campbell and Freebairn Rebels at King George Oval.
A half century from Blake Ubergang was not enough in the Rebels total of 153 with Glen Innes, led by an unbeaten 76 from Aaron Sherritt, making light work of the run chase, finishing on 3/158.
Meantime, Inverell’s rep cricket team’s final Connolly Cup match against Armidale was washed out following a heavy storm on Saturday.
