This week is National Homelessness week, and Rural Outreach & Support Service, along with Inverell Men’s Haven of Hope Initiative, are raising awareness and offering support to people experiencing homelessness by holding an event called ‘’ this Friday at Victoria Park.
Emma Waters from Rural Outreach and Support Service is encouraging supportive community members to come along and attend the event to learn more about homelessness and become active in endeavoring to help people.
Ms Waters says new figures released found homelessness in Inverell Shire local government area had skyrocketed from around 5 people last year to 71 people this year, suggesting more in-depth research, intel from locals and extra resources had given them a more accurate reading.
She says the recent figures may also be out as there may be people living tough that they missed.
Soup in The Park’ will be held this Friday from 11am -2pm at Victoria Park
