Soup in the Park for Homelessness Week

by | Aug 8, 2024 | Community | 0 comments

Inverell Men’s Haven of Hope Committee is staging a Soup in the Park event on this evening to raise awareness around homelessness in our area with an aim of establishing a men’s refuge in Inverell.

The committee are work towards finding a solution for the lack of emergency and short-term accommodation for men in the local area adding whilst there is obviously a problem across the board affecting women and children also, they have identified that there are less resources available to men.

Emma Waters from Rural Outreach & support Service says some of the underlying issues that have a direct impact on housing sustainability are mental health issues, drug and alcohol issues, gambling, relationship breakdowns, domestic violence, housing affordability, unemployment or low income, unsatisfactory rental history, along with lack of family and community support.

However, Ms Waters says there is help available.

The Soup in the Park event at Victoria Park this evening from 5.30 with the community invited to come along, enjoy some homemade soup and have a chat around the issues of homelessness.
