There’s been a recall of Google Pixel 6a smartphones due to the possibility of the batter overheating and posing a risk of fire and/or burns to a user.
An automatic firmware update to Android 16 was rolled out to Pixel 6a devices in Australia on earlier this month and Google advises that the firmware update provides new battery management features that mitigate the risk of overheating.
The model in question is G1AZG, purchased nationally, internationally and online, sold between 16 June 2022 -and 10 April this year.
In the recall notice, Google advises the issue does not affect all Pixel 6a devices and you do not need to return your device to mitigate the safety issue with Google advising that the firmware update mitigates the safety issue.
Once the firmware update has been installed, you can continue using your device.
