The Inverell Saints Women’s team have been inflicted their first loss of the season, going down to their arch rival the Gunnedah Poochettes by 1 point on Saturday at Varley Oval in Round 11 AFL Northwest action.
In wet and slipper conditions, the Saints led for most of the game but critical errors gave the Poochettes the upper hand in the 1.4.10 to 1.3.9 loss.
Coach Georgia Chappel says she was frustrated by the loss but admits it might be the wake up call her team needs leading into finals.
Meantime, the Saints Men’s side recorded a 63-point win over the Bulldogs.
7 goals from debutant Brady Mather led the way for the Saints in the 13.11.89 to 3.8.26 victory.
The other Round 11 game between the Tamworth Kangaroos and the New England Nomads was abandoned due to the rain.
Around 150 people attended the Club’s 20 year anniversary on Saturday night with former players, committee members and supporters gathering to commemorate the night which also revealed the Club’s Best Team for the past 20 years
