The Inverell Saints have kicked off their AFL Northwest premiership defence with wins in both the men’s and ladies’ games played at Varley Oval on Saturday against the Gunnedah Bulldogs.
After a sluggish start, the Men’s team booted away to record a massive 124 point win over the Dogs, with Shannon Wilson booting 9 majors while Kyle Payne kicked 7 goals in the Saints score of 24.18.162 to 5.8.38.
Meantime, the Women’s team led for most of the game to register a 5.5.35 to 3.7.25 victory over their long-time rival the Poochettes.
Katrina Doak and Clare McCosker booted 2 goals apiece in the win while Laura Carrol, Christine Watters and first gamer Kristina Majetic all played their part in the victory.
Meantime the Tamworth Kangaroos had two wins against the New England Nomads at Bellevue Oval with its Men’s team scoring their first win in 627 days while their women’s team had their first win in 648 days.
