A man has died in a crash in the state’s New England region.

About 6.35pm on Friday (8 August 2025), emergency services were called to Gwydir River Road, about 5km south of Bundarra, following reports of a crash.

Officers attached to New England Police District attended and found a Mazda utility had left the roadway and crashed into a tree.

The driver and sole occupant – a 19-year-old man – was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, he died at the scene.

Police established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Meantime, a man has died in a two-vehicle crash in the state’s New England region.

About 12.30pm on Saturday (9 August 2025), emergency services were called to the Gwydir Highway, Swan Vale, about 70km east of Inverell, following reports of a crash.

Officers attached to New England Police District attended and found a Ford Ranger utility collided head-on with a B-double combination semi-trailer.

The driver of the utility – a man aged in his 20s, was trapped in the vehicle until being removed by emergency services personnel but could not be revived and died at the scene.

A 22-year-old female passenger in the utility was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being airlifted to Gold Coast hospital with spinal and internal injuries.

The driver of the semi-trailer – a 57-year-old man – was not injured and was taken to Inverell hospital for mandatory testing.

The Gwydir Highway was closed in both directions whilst police commenced an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

As investigations continue, anyone who witnessed the crash or has dash-cam footage, ia asked to call Inverell Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A report into both accidents will be prepared for the coroner.
