Australians are being urged to observe a minute’s silence at 11am today to pay their respects to current and former service men and women on this Remembrance Day.
Federal Shadow Veterans Minister and New England MP Barnaby Joyce says in the First World War, 460,000 enlisted of a population of 5 million adding many people from this region went off to war in large numbers.
Mr Joyce says tragically 62 thousand were killed while a further 156,000 were wounded, gassed or taken prisoner.
He urged the community to stop whatever they’re doing at 11am and remember those ADF personnel who have been wounded – both physically and mentally – as well as the countless family and friends who have lost loved ones.
