A recruitment campaign will begin this weekend across the state, including at Bingara, to further boost on-call firefighters.
The “Become an On-Call Firefighter” drive urges people to join Fire & Rescue NSW to help their communities and learn new skills while being paid an hourly rate to supplement their income.
The Bingara station has struggled to recruit new firefighters in recent years and comes after many information days, and letterbox drops last year which have failed to recruit local firefighters to be based at the station with Gwydir Shire mayor Tiffany Galvin saying at the time they had two choices to either downgrade or close up.
The news comes as the State Government credited investment to rebuild Fire and Rescue’s training resources which led to 219 permanent firefighters commencing last year, almost doubling the 112 recruited in 2022, along with 429 on-call fire fighters.
