Northern Tablelands MP Brendan Moylan says the State Government’s proposed changes to the Native vegetation laws is a backwards decision.
It follows the government releasing it response to the statutory reviews of the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 and the native vegetation provisions of the Local Land Services Act 2013 where they plan to reform the biodiversity offsets scheme, to end excess land clearing and strengthen environmental protections.
Mr Moylan says in 2016, the previous state government amended the Native Vegetation Legislation to achieve a triple bottom line where the environment, society and economics were looked after.
He says the move to change native vegetation legislation is principally to achieve biodiversity outcomes adding if you read between the lines, it looks like we’re going back to having the government tell landholders what they can and cannot do on their properties.
