Recent water testing conducted by Gwydir Shire Council at Warialda has returned promising results.
Since PFAS contamination was detected late last year, Council have been conducting regular testing to ensure the water remains safe.
Four samples taken from the Crane Street bore this year have shown zero PFAS contamination after previously testing positive for PFAS levels in excess of the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and was subsequently taken offline.
Last week, Council ran a trial using the bore, in isolation from the town water supply and a further sample taken to ensure infiltration does not occur with changing water levels within the aquifer.
Results from the sample are expected this week and will help Council decide if the bore can return to service.
Furthermore, a hydrogeologist has identified a suitable new bore site, with completion of the bore drilling forecast by the end of the month.
