Inverell Police Dog squad farewelled long serving Police Dog ‘Atlas’ with a Guard of Honor and March Out during last Thursday’s Police commemorations after serving the community for 7 years.
Atlas was one of two police dogs stationed at Inverell and had no sick days during his entire career.
Atlas and handler Senior Constable HILL served the majority of their time in New England Police District but also served in Sydney initially as well as secondments to as far as Broken Hill.
A career highlight included tracking two murder suspects in Ingleburn in South West Sydney with his efforts leading to the apprehension of both suspects, an achievement in his first year of service.
During his career Atlas also located multiple missing persons, a firearm used in an armed hold up in Armidale in 2021 and was friends with so many of the local children at the day care centres and schools, but feared by the criminal element,
He will be replaced by a new GP dog in the near future.
