Northwest NSW Blacked Out After Power Outage

by | Feb 16, 2026 | Community

A large power outage was experienced on Friday afternoon by residents living in northwest NSW.

The outage stretched from Inverell up to the Qld border, west to Moree and south to Kingstown.

An Essential Energy spokesperson says about 14,500 customers in Inverell and the surrounding region were affected by an unplanned power outage at 4.20pm.

Crews responded and investigated the fault, managing to restore power to about 14,000 customers just after 5:30, however 500 customers in the Bundarra and Kingstown areas initially remained without power until the fault on the network could be repaired with power restored to all customers by 8.15pm.

The spokesperson says the outage was caused by a fault involving equipment which will be further reviewed by Essential Energy crews.
