Northern Daily Leader to Halt Printing Daily Paper

by | Apr 30, 2026 | Business

Australia’s largest independent publisher ACM Media have confirmed the final printed weekday edition of the Northern Daily Leader will be published on May 8 after it was revealed the Tamworth Press site would cease operation.

The daily newspaper serving Tamworth, New England and the North-West, will switch to digital news coverage every day from Monday 11th of May and an expanded weekend print edition from Saturday May 9th to be done at the Sydney press facility operated by News Corp.

ACM managing director Tony Kendal says the running costs of the Tamworth printing operation are no longer financially viable for their business and the Leader’s new publishing model provides a better commercial outcome that meets the changing demands of our audiences and customers.

Mr Kendal confirmed there would be redundancies acknowledging that the changes would be “difficult news for their Tamworth press site colleagues and those editorial staff whose positions are being made redundant.
