New data from the Clean Energy Regulator and the ACCC shows despite the $2.3 billion Cheaper Home Batteries Program only coming into effect on 1 July this year, it’s already been a roaring success, with nearly 20,000 solar batteries being installed in the month of July alone.
Australian households, businesses and community organisations can now get a discount of around 30% on the upfront cost of installing small-scale 5 to 100 kWh battery systems.
The ACCC found that a median household using just rooftop solar saved just under 20% or $286 a year with savings even more significant when using solar and home batteries, saving about 40% or $629 on their annual electricity bills.
ING’s Head of Consumer and Market Insights Matt Bowen says despite this news, there is a warning to consumers.
