Services will be held today to commemorate National Police Remembrance Day – a date that honours the dedicated police officers who have died while serving their community.
Each year, vigils, services and marches are held across the land to commemorate the day and is an opportunity for the community to honour the service and sacrifice of the almost 300 members of the NSW Police Force who have lost their lives in the line of duty and through injury or illness since the formation of the NSW Police Force in 1862.
The day was first commemorated in 1989 with the National Police memorial officially opened in Canberra on the 29th of September in 2006.
A special service will be held this morning from 10:30 at Our Lady of the Angels Chapel, Cathedral Parish of Saints Mary & Joseph on the corner of Barney and Jessie Streets in Armidale
