With the federal government announcing legislation yesterday forcing social media companies to enforce a minimum age limit of 16, Northern Tablelands MP Brendan Moylan has backed the move.
Speaking on STA FM Tuesday morning, Mr Moylan says after the last sitting of state Parliament in August, there was bipartisan support for an age restriction on social media platforms but believes the State government will now step back and let the Federal counterparts take the lead on the issue.
Mr Moylan says it will be interesting how the legislation will be implemented adding kids will try to find other avenues to access social media platforms if age limits are enforced.
He says this is not just a government issue but also encouraged parents to have a serious discussion with their kids about the dangers of social media.
