Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan believes injecting more money into Moree is not going to solve issues with youth crime across regional NSW.
The NSW Government today announced a further $2 million to be spent in Moree, adding to the $13.4 million put forward in early 2024 for a pilot youth crime program.
Mr Moylan doesn’t believe more money will solve the crime problem.
“Spending more taxpayer money in Moree is not going to solve this issue across regional NSW,” Mr Moylan said.
“The Minns Labor government should focus on the protecting the community as opposed to throwing more money at a problem that has not been resolved by funding alone.
“The way to fix youth crime and protect our communities is to hold the offenders to account for the impact they have on the innocent victim and the community.
“Parliament’s job is to protect the community and spending more taxpayer money is not the answer.
“Proper legislation is how to fix crime across regional NSW.
“The Government needs to implement significant legislative reform to protect the community, particularly doli incapax, the Bail Act and sentencing legislation.”
Mr Moylan’s comments come following two more break-ins at Moree overnight including the home of an 80-year-old woman and a motel.
