Square and Compass and Campbell and Freebairn Rebels have played out an exciting tie in the final round of the Inverell Cricket Competition at Varley Oval on Saturday.
Needing 211 for victory and requiring 10 runs off the last over, Rebels batsmen Julian Collins and Stephen Savage scampered for the winning run before Ryan Campbell’s back handed flick resulted in a run out on the last ball of the game.
Earlier, a 139-run partnership by Liam Spalding and Jai Tasker led Square and Compass to 5/210.
In the other game at McCosker 2, junior bowlers Henry Oliver with 4/14 and Hollie Woodbury with 3/45 led Staggy Creek to a 134-run win over Delungra.
Staggy were dismissed for 230 with Jason Martin top scoring with 65 and in reply, Delungra got off to a solid start to be 2/70 before Oliver and Woodbury went to work to dismiss Delungra for 96.
The first week of the finals kicks off this Saturday with Staggy Creek taking on Campbell and Freebairn Rebels at Varley Oval with the winner to book a spot in the Grand final and a meeting with Square and Compass.
