A public meeting will be held this evening at the Roxy Theatre to discuss the proposed downgrade of the Bingara Fire Station and its truck.
It follows many information days, and letterbox drops which have failed to recruit local firefighters to be based at the station with Gwydir Shire mayor Tiffany Galvin saying they were given two choices to either downgrade or close up.
Mayor Galvin and Ms Daley were informed that a ‘Tanker strategy’ is being proposed which means a crew of 2 instead of 4 in a pumper truck would be able to respond to a fire incident and would rely on back up crews from Warialda and Inverell as well as the RFS.
Mayor Galvin labelled the move disheartening and detrimental to the town of Bingara and surroundings and called on locals to get involved before its too late.
The meeting will commence at 6pm
