Inverell Shire Mayor Kate Dight will update councillors of discussion had with the management of McLean Care at today’s Council meeting.
Mayor Dight will give a Mayoral Minute this morning, updating the discussions had yesterday with Acting CEO of McLean Care Killean, Jill Davidson and Chairman of the Board, Manuel Meszaros about the ongoing issues and developments.
It follows a decision by McLean to transfer the business last month to ensure a future provider has the scale, resources and long-term capacity to maintain facilities and continue delivering care for older people in regional areas and were currently in the early stages of discussions with several aged care providers who have expressed interest in acquiring and operating its six residential aged care homes, including Killean in Inverell.
Ms Davidson says like many aged care providers across Australia, McLean Care had experienced increasing financial pressure in recent years due to rising costs, workforce shortages in regional areas, and the lasting impacts of COVID-19.
