Inverell Shire Mayor Kate Dight shared the community’s concern about the future of Mclean Care in a Mayoral Minute at Wednesday’s Council meeting.
It follows news the Board of McLean Care were beginning a process to transition its services including Support at Home, Commonwealth Home Support Program, Veterans’ Home Care Program, and private home care services – to new providers along with the departure of CEO Sue Thompson earlier this month
Mayor Dight had written to New England MP Barnaby Joyce saying McClean care was no longer financial, seeking advice as to whether the Government has stepped in to keep McLean Care’s facilities open.
Speaking on STA FM this week, Mayor Dight says she had received correspondence from Mr Joyce saying he has e-mailed a letter to the Minister for Aged Care and Seniors, Sam Rae, is seeking his urgent consideration of the concerns raised in relation to this matter, his clarification as to whether government support is being provided to McLean Care and for his advice as soon as possible.
Cr Dight say she’s been in communication with McLean’s Chairperson Manual Meszaros who gave assurances that the facility’s future isn’t clouded.
