Local Student Selected for Equine Learning Experience

by | Oct 3, 2024 | Education | 0 comments

A local Year 11 student was selected to get a head-start in the racing and thoroughbred breeding equine industry via the Regional Industry Education Partnerships initiative.

Inverell High School student Kimberly Wilson was one of 12 girls selected to attend the ‘Thoroughly Schooled’ program held at a week-long camp at Scone, designed for students from Years 10-12 with a genuine passion for horses who are interested in pursuing a career in the equine industry.

It is a chance to gain entry-level equine industry skills and experience through practical training, classroom lessons, excursions, career talks and three work-experience mornings on a stud farm and racing stables.

Regional Industry Education Partnerships Walter Mansfield, says the program is run once a year and is a joint collaboration alongside Racing NSW and Hunter Thoroughbred Breeders Association.

Earlier this year, the Regional Industry Education Partnerships program was secured as an ongoing service for schools and industry to continue bridging the gap between students and employers.
