Glen Innes Severn Council congratulates two local athletes who are excelling through the Northern Inland Academy of Sport (NIAS) in 2025.
Mia Watson – Netball Mia Watson is in her second year in the NIAS Netball program and was recently recognised with the Program’s Most Dedicated Award.
This award acknowledges Mia’s exceptional commitment, determination, and work ethic both on and off the court, reflecting her dedication to the sport and her development.
Imogen Biddle – Future Stars (Athletics) Imogen Biddle, also in her second year with NIAS, has been accessing performance support and education through the program, including Strength & Conditioning at Rural Fit, as well as guidance in Sport Psychology and Nutrition.
Imogen recently returned from an Athletics Tour to Canada and has been awarded one of ten $1,000 Athlete Assistance Grants by the Office of Sport.
These grants support training, development, and competition expenses for promising athletes, acknowledging Imogen’s talent and commitment to athletics at a national level.
Mayor Margot Davis said, “It’s fantastic to see local sporting heroes achieving so much through NIAS. Mia and Imogen demonstrate the talent, dedication and community spirit our town is proud to support. Their achievements highlight not only their personal commitment but also the strength of our sporting community.”

NIAS provides coaching, education, and performance support for talented athletes across northern NSW. The program helps athletes reach their full potential in sport while balancing education and personal development, preparing them for success both on and off the field.
