A local couple have returned from taking part in their 3rd Drover’s Run which concluded this week in Tamworth, raising money for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
Mitch and Tanya Orchard say their 9 day Run was a success despite the wet start to the trek which kicked off at Armatree near Gilgandra taking them to Bourke, Cunnamalla, Eromanga, Milparinka, Byrock, Coonabarabran and finishing in Tamworth.
This year, the event had 22 vehicles transporting 43 participants over 3000 km and raising over $135,000 for the service, exceeding organisers expectations.
Tanya and Mitch contributed $14,000 to the cause, and for their efforts were awarded the 2025 Drovers Run Fundraising champion.
Mitch says the highlight of the Drover’s Run was an unexpected stop being a coffee van on the clay plains south of Cameron Corner, where NSW, QLD, Northern Territory and South Australia borders meet.
