Local Councils Conduct PFAS Testing

by | Dec 20, 2024 | Health, Local Government | 0 comments

Following detections of PFAS chemicals in Warialda’s water supply, Councils around the region are testing their water supplies to ensure its still safe to drink.

Inverell Shire Council have confirmed they’ve recently completed PFAS sampling and testing of potable water supplies within the Shire with test results determined that all samples were either non-detectable or below current and proposed Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and therefore safe to drink.

It follows Glen Innes Severn Council also confirming recent testing of all their water systems across the region met all guideline limits based on the tests conducted, offering assurances to residents that there is no cause for concern.

Earlier this week, Gwydir Shire Council reported the Northern reservoir requires more aggressive emptying/flushing after excessive PFAS chemicals were detected earlier this month.

Recent tests have found no detections in the High School, Saleyard and Gragin Rd bores but while Council state despite the Crane Street Bore meeting the parameters of the current drinking water guidelines, it was slightly over the proposed 2025 guideline levels and won’t be used along with the Hospital Bore
