LEVEL 2 Water Restrictions Commence for Uralla Township

by | Feb 9, 2026 | Local Government, Weather

Uralla Shire Council is committed to managing our water resources responsibly and proactively. As a community, we all have a role to play in preserving our water resources now and into the future. To guide this, Council continues to closely monitor dam storage levels, weather conditions and projected demand to ensure long-term water security for the Uralla Township water supply.

As current storage levels have fallen below 62%, Level 2 water restrictions have been implemented. These restrictions apply to all properties within the Uralla Township that are connected to the town water supply.

What level 2 restrictions mean for Uralla township residents and businesses

Under Level 2 restrictions, the following requirements apply:

Outdoor watering

  • Lawns and Residential Gardens: Watering is permitted only between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm on alternate days using a hand-held hose fitted with a trigger nozzle.
    • Even-numbered houses: Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
    • Odd-numbered houses: Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
    • Mondays: No watering permitted.

Vehicle washing

  • Vehicle washing is permitted using a bucket. If using a hose, this may not exceed 30 minutes.

Washing hard surfaces

  • Cleaning of hard surfaces (driveways, paths, paved areas, and concrete) is prohibited, unless using high pressure equipment.

Swimming pools

  • Private swimming pools may only be topped up between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm on designated watering days, with Council Approval to a maximum amount of 3kL.
  • Filling of new or empty private swimming pools is not permitted.
  • Council and Motel swimming pools may be topped up as required to maintain health standards, with Council Approval to a maximum amount of 5kL.

Public spaces and commercial activities

  • Market gardens and commercial nurseries may water only between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm on any day using hand-held hoses or buckets.
  • Irrigation of school sports fields may occur only between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm on any day using hand-held hoses or buckets.

Other uses

  • Use of water for evaporative air conditioners may continue.

Ongoing Monitoring

The implementation of water restrictions is subject to ongoing assessment of factors including available water storage, weather and climate forecasts, and the need to maintain compliance with the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and the Public Health Act 2010 (NSW).

Council staff will continue to monitor conditions and will update the community should restrictions change.
