Residents are being advised of a Koala chlamydia outbreak in Inverell.
Reports of a run of chlamydia between Yetman Rd and Clinton Hill at Fernhill as well as at Gum Flat and Oakwood.
Chlamydia causes blindness, bladder infection, ulceration and septicaemia, prostrate and ovarian cysts and can lead to a very slow painful death.
Tayna Arentz from WIRES says antibiotics can save koalas but it’s important to find and report them as soon as possible, adding there are some indicators people should look for including swollen eyes or stained backsides
Anyone who sees koalas with sore eyes or stained bottoms are asked to contact Northern Tablelands Wildlife Carers on 1800 008 290 or WIRES
