New England MP Barnaby Joyce believes a capacity to refining and producing our own fuel would assist in the current cost of living crisis instead of cutting the fuel excise.
Questioned on STA FM yesterday morning whether the Coalition would reintroduce a cut on fuel exercise if they won the next federal election, Mr Joyce says the cut would only bring prices down in the short term.
Mr Joyce says the fuel excise is used to fix up country roads and by cutting the fuel excise would remove the capacity to repair the road infrastructure.
He says another way to ease the cost-of-living burden on Australians is to look at power costs and infrastructure which will then have knock on effects.
