Inverell Shire Council has resolved to support the Aboriginal Elders Olympics to be held in Inverell next year.
The Aboriginal Elders Olympics is an annual event that aims to foster community spirit, well-being and cultural connection among Aboriginal Elders across New South Wales, with the event featuring games, social events and an awards ceremony being conducted at the Inverell Town Hall.
The Elders Olympics is expected to attract 300 competitors to the shire, delivering a significant boost to the visitor economy.
Joyce Livermore, Chairperson of the Inverell Bear Eaters Elders Group wrote to Council requesting support of the Olympics, with the total cost of running the event estimated at $62,104, which includes catering, equipment hire, and other event-related expenses.
The Aboriginal Elders Olympics is a 3 day event being held in Inverell from 9th April next year.
