Inverell Hosts First-Ever Walking Football Charity Tournament as Part of Mini World Cup Week

by | Aug 20, 2025 | Sport, Media Release | 0 comments

As part of the Mini World Cup youth football celebrations this October, Inverell will host its first-ever Walking Football Charity Tournament on Thursday 2 October, offering locals a chance to lace up, slow down, and give back.

The evening event runs from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and invites teams of six (with five on the field at any one time) to take part, with each game lasting 18 minutes. It’s open to all ages and abilities, with no running, no offside, and no contact — just plenty of laughs, good vibes, and community spirit.

Entry is $150 per team, and 100% of proceeds will go to a local Inverell Shire charity. Last year’s football fundraiser raised $2,100 for Operation: Operating Room, and this year, the winning team will get to choose which local charity receives the donation.

Organisers are calling on local residents to nominate Inverell Shire-based charities that could benefit from the funds raised. Whether it’s a community group, welfare service, youth organisation, or support network — if it makes a difference locally, it’s eligible.

Nominations can be submitted via email to info@ladybugprojects.com.au and will be shortlisted before the event.

“Walking football is about inclusion, fun, and community, and what better way to celebrate that than by supporting a great local cause chosen by the people playing — and living — right here in Inverell,” said event manager Christy Galbraith.

Teams can be made up of friends, workmates, sports clubs, families, or community groups. Outfits are up to you — come in team colours, work shirts, or dress up for a laugh!
