Former Inverell Shire councillor Jackie Watts has been re-elected unopposed as President of the Inverell Chamber of Commerce and industry following last night’s Annual General Meeting.
Ms Watts is joined on the Chamber by Vice President Allan Kemp, Secretary is Cherie Duffy, Jenny Thomas assumes the Assistant Secretary role, Tracey Opps remains Treasurer while Kylie Wilks continues the Chambers Publicity officer.
Ms Watts says it’s been a challenging 12 months for the Chamber adding the viability of the organisation depends on the business community and the general community stepping forward to take up roles within the Chamber to see it succeed into the future.
In her report, Ms Watts stated ‘ I came into this position 12 months ago, as the result of a member of the Chamber seeking to find someone who could take on the position of President at last year’s AGM.
During the conversation with this person it was indicated if a president couldn’t be found then the Chamber would need to close. We have kept the Chamber running this twelve months but we are at a crossroads‘
She says with the future of the Chamber remaining uncertain, she would love to see more interaction with local businesses to share ideas and thoughts with them to keep the Chamber a viable entity.
