Informal Votes Cast at Local Elections

by | Oct 2, 2024 | Community, Politics | 0 comments

An analysis of the recent Inverell Shire Council election reveals just under 20% of eligible voters did not cast a ballot.

The NSW Electoral Commission says of the 13,207 enrolled voters, 10,901 or just on 83% cast a vote over the 7 days the poll was open.

Of the votes cast, 1,021 were labelled informal and therefore did not count.

The quota needed to be elected was 995, and the nine councillors have now been named and will come together for the first time on Wednesday the 9th of this month.
