Gwydir Shire Council acting General Manager Leeah Daley has slammed those responsible for damaging headstones at the Warialda Cemetery.
In a social media post, Ms Daley says it appears that some clown thought it would be a good idea to do ‘burn outs’ at the cemetery and lost control adding the lack of respect is flabbergasting.
Ms Daley says Police have been informed and, if the individuals can be identified, there will be charges laid.
Council will attempt to secure the damaged monuments and contact the affected families as well as investigating ways to prevent incidents like this in the future.
